Bhatkal: Anjuman Institute of Technology and Management (AITM) on Thursday inaugurated the VTU Inter-Collegiate Mangaluru Division Football Tournament 2026 (Men) with a well-organised function on its campus. The two-day tournament is being held on April 16 and 17.

Principal Dr. K. Fazlur Rahman, in his welcome address, highlighted the importance of sports in the holistic development of students, noting that such events help nurture discipline, teamwork and leadership qualities.

Chief Guest Maawiya Mohtisham, General Secretary of the Uttara Kannada District Football Association and Founder of Bhatkal Inter Football Association, encouraged participants to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play.

AITM Secretary Mohammed Ansar Damdaabu and General Secretary of Anjuman Hami-e-Muslimeen, Mohammed Ishaque Shabandri, also addressed the gathering, reiterating the institution’s commitment to promoting sports alongside academic excellence.

Shabandri later formally declared the tournament open, marking the commencement of the competition.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Shrishail Bhat, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, organisers and participants.

Registrar Prof. Zahid Kharuri, Physical Education Director Bhaskar Belegadde, Heads of Departments, faculty members and staff were present on the occasion.
