Arabian sea turns rough; Fishermen warned against venturing into Sea, Tourism Activities Suspended

Bhatkal: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned fishermen along the Karnataka coast not to venture into the sea till May 25 due to rough weather conditions and strong winds developing over the Arabian Sea.

Amid the worsening weather and the onset of the monsoon season, the Tourism Department has ordered the immediate suspension of boating, water sports, scuba diving and pre-wedding photography activities across several tourist destinations in Uttara Kannada district.

The restrictions apply to major coastal tourism hubs including Murdeshwar Beach, Karwar Beach, Gokarna Main Beach, Om Beach, Kudle Beach, Half Moon Beach and Paradise Beach. Water sports and scuba diving activities at Netrani Island have also been suspended until further notice.

Authorities have additionally halted boating services in the Tadadi-Aghanashini backwaters and Sharavathi backwaters in Honnavar and Kasarkod, along with other approved inland tourism destinations in the coastal district.

Officials said the precautionary measures were taken in view of IMD warnings about rough sea conditions, strong winds and possible cyclonic developments over the Arabian Sea. Tourists and residents have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea or participating in adventure tourism activities until weather conditions improve.
