Kumta: A bike rider was killed on the spot and another sustained serious injuries after a lorry rammed into their two-wheeler in Kumta of Uttara Kannada district.

The injured was shifted to Manipal for further treatment after being administered first aid at the Kumta Government Hospital.

The accident occurred near Gibb Circle on the National Highway in Kumta.

The deceased has been identified as Subramanya Bheerappa Ambiga (35), while the injured, Bhageerath Mahadeva Ambiga (25), suffered severe leg injuries and was later referred to Manipal for advanced treatment. Both are residents of Hegde village.

According to sources, the two were travelling to purchase fishing nets when a speeding lorry from behind hit their bike. The impact of the collision was so severe that one of them died on the spot, while the other sustained critical injuries.

Kumta police rushed to the spot and have initiated legal proceedings.
