Bhatkal: Former president of the Western Ghats Task Force, Ananth Hegde Ashisar, has said that public protests alone are not sufficient to halt the proposed Sharavathi Pumped Storage Project, and stressed that elected representatives must take the lead in opposing the project and exert pressure on the government.
Addressing a press conference in Bhatkal, Ashisar stated that efforts to protect the Western Ghats have been ongoing for several years. “Our struggle will continue until the Sharavathi pumped storage project is stopped,” he asserted.
He further emphasized that it is essential for public representatives, including Members of Parliament and Members of the Legislative Assembly, to collectively oppose the project. In this regard, he said a meeting is being planned in Bengaluru to raise a strong and unified voice against the project at a larger scale.
