KARWAR: The Uttara Kannada District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued a public health advisory amid rising temperatures, urging citizens to take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
In a statement released on Saturday, the DDMA advised residents to avoid stepping outdoors during peak heat hours between 12 pm and 3 pm. It stressed that staying hydrated is crucial and recommended drinking water frequently, even without feeling thirsty.
People have been advised to wear light-coloured cotton clothing and use protective gear such as umbrellas, hats, and sunglasses while going outdoors.
The advisory also warned against consuming alcohol, caffeine, and carbonated beverages, as they can lead to dehydration. Instead, residents are encouraged to consume buttermilk, lemon water, and Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS), along with water-rich fruits like watermelon and oranges.
Authorities have directed organisers of public events to ensure adequate shade, ventilation, and drinking water at outdoor venues.
Health officials said immediate medical attention should be sought in case of symptoms of heat exhaustion or heatstroke, urging the public to strictly follow health guidelines during the summer.
