Karwar–Kaiga four-lane road project proposed; MLA Satish Sail directs authorities to prepare plan

Karwar: In a significant push toward infrastructure development in coastal Karnataka, Karwar MLA Satish Sail has directed officials to prepare and implement a comprehensive plan for constructing a four-lane road connecting Karwar to Kaiga.

The directive was issued during the inauguration of ambulances and other vehicles provided under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), Kaiga. The vehicles were handed over to the District Health and Family Welfare Department and its affiliated institutions.

Addressing the gathering, Sail highlighted that roads in the Karwar constituency are currently narrow, leading to persistent traffic challenges. He noted that ₹22.5 crore has already been sanctioned for the widening of the Kaiga road. In addition, improved road connectivity within the city, including stretches leading to the railway station, has been developed with the cooperation of the municipal authorities.

He emphasized that a coordinated effort by the Public Works Department, the municipal council, and Kaiga authorities to construct a four-lane road from Karwar to Kaiga would significantly benefit both NPCIL operations and the general public. Sail further stated that he aims to ensure comprehensive development of the Karwar constituency during his tenure.

Speaking on the occasion, NPCIL Kaiga Site Director Vinod Kumar said that over ₹10 crore is being spent annually under CSR funds for initiatives in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and skill development. He added that ₹24.5 crore has been earmarked for widening the road stretch from Kerewadi to Kaiga Cross on the Kaiga–Ilkal route, with tenders expected to be floated shortly. He assured that works recommended by the MLA would be taken up on priority.

During the event, a request was also submitted to Kaiga authorities to provide a vehicle for monkey fever (Kyasanur Forest Disease) control programmes in Ankola.

District Health Officer Dr. Shankar Rao, RCH Officer Dr. Nataraj, District Malaria Officer Dr. Ramesh Rao, District Tuberculosis Control Officer Dr. Harsha, Public Works Department engineer Mallikarjun, Municipal Commissioner Jagadish Hulagajji, NPCIL Additional Chief Engineer and CSR officer Tippeswamy, along with other health department officials and staff, were present at the programme.
