Karwar: Additional Deputy Commissioner Sajid Mulla has directed officials to intensify inspections at homestays and resorts across Uttara Kannada district and create awareness about the eradication of child and adolescent labour.
Chairing meetings of the District Child Labour Project Society’s District-Level Task Force Committee, Executive Committee, and Advisory Committee on Tuesday, Mulla instructed departments to conduct inspections through joint teams and take strict legal action against employers found engaging child labour.
He stressed the need for inter-departmental coordination to safeguard children's rights and directed taluk-level committees to hold mandatory meetings every three months and submit compliance reports. He also called for greater public awareness through legal literacy programmes on child labour prohibition laws.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner instructed officials from the School Education and Literacy Department to provide monthly information to the Labour Department regarding children who have dropped out of school.
Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority Divyashree C.M., District Labour Officers Lalitha Satenahalli and Veena Masti, Social Welfare Department Deputy Director Umesh, District Child Labour Project Director Sandesh Gavankar, and officials from various departments were present at the meeting.
