Mangaluru: In a tragic incident in Karnataka’s coastal city of Mangaluru, two youths drowned after a small boat they were travelling in capsized during a late-night fishing trip, while a third managed to swim to safety.
The incident occurred in the Kunjathbail area under the jurisdiction of Kavoor police station.
According to sources, the three youths had ventured into the Phalguni river in a small boat at around 1:30 am for fishing.
However, when they reached the middle of the river, the boat suddenly capsized, throwing all three into the water. Ganesh (28) and Royal (27), who reportedly did not know how to swim, drowned.
The third youth, Nithesh (29), managed to swim ashore and survived.
Following the incident, Fire and Emergency Services personnel, along with local divers, launched a rescue operation. By Wednesday afternoon, Ganesh’s body had been recovered from the river, while search efforts were still underway to trace Royal.
Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation.
