Bhatkal: Police have arrested more than 50 persons so far in connection with the Murin Katte dispute near Old City Light Hotel in Nawayath Colony in Bhatkal. The search for several other youths allegedly linked to the incident is still underway.
Some of those arrested were later released on bail, while several others remain lodged in Karwar jail.
The situation in Bhatkal is currently peaceful, with elaborate security arrangements in place to maintain law and order. Western Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) Amit Singh has been camping in the town for the past two days and is personally monitoring the situation.
Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lakshmi Priya and Superintendent of Police (SP) Deepan M.N., along with other senior police officials, are also stationed in the town and closely overseeing developments.
Additional police personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas across Bhatkal to prevent any untoward incidents.
