Udupi: The Udupi District Muslim Okkoota has condemned the horrific murder of a mother and three children in Udupi on Sunday and demanded the immediate arrest of the murderer.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Okkoota said that the massacre had created great anxiety among the people of the district.
"The fact that one of the worst massacres in the history of Udupi took place in the early hours of the morning in a town not far from the district center has created great anxiety among the people," the statement said.
The Union also criticized the state government for its "insensitive and irresponsible" behavior in the wake of the tragedy.
"The minister in charge of the district has not visited the site of the massacre or even issued a statement in the last forty hours," the statement said. "This is unacceptable, especially from a minister who is also a woman and a mother."
The Okkoota urged the district administration and the police department to immediately arrest the killer and take other measures, such as installing CCTV cameras in the area, to reassure the people.
"The government should also send representatives to meet the affected family members and local people to reassure them," the statement said. "This is the primary duty of the government."
The Okkoota's statement comes at a time when the people of Udupi are still reeling from the shock of the massacre. The incident has raised many questions about the safety and security of women and children in the district.
The government needs to act quickly to address these concerns and bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.
