Udupi: The Udupi police brought Praveen Arun Chougule (39), the accused in the murder case of a mother and three children in Nejar, before the court. The court has granted 14 days of police custody for the accused.
The accused underwent a health check-up at Ajekaru Primary Health Center, and the heavy police escorted him to the Udupi Court. The case was presented before the court of First Additional Civil Judge and First Class Judicial Magistrate, Udupi, with Malpe Police Circle Inspector Manjunath leading the proceedings.
Senior Assistant Public Prosecutor HM Nadaf, representing the police, requested a 14-day remand in police custody for the accused. Consequently, Judge Shyam Prasad ordered the accused to remain in police custody until November 28. Advocate Raju Pujari, appointed by the government for the accused, was also present during the proceedings.
Following the court decision, the accused was taken into custody by the police under tight security.
The court premises were heavily guarded with hundreds of policemen, and a crowd gathered to witness the accused.
