‘Council election polling to be held in 238 polling booths’

Karwar: Legislative Council elections’ polling would be held on December 10 in 238 polling booths in Uttara Kannada district. Of them, 28 polling booths have been identified as sensitive, said Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan. 

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, he said, there are a total of 2,929 voters including 1,394 men and 1,535 women in the district. Of them, there are 2,649 voters including 1,236 men and 1,413 women in Gram Panchayats.

There are 280 voters in City Municipal Council Council, Town Municipal Councils and Town Panchayats. There are a total of 11 local bodies and 227 Gram Panchayats in the district, he informed.       

He said, the polling would be held at local bodies from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Mustering and De-mustering centres have been set up at respective taluks. Counting of votes would be held on December 14 in Karwar, he stated. 

On vaccine 

The Deputy Commissioner said, a total of 45,725 people in the district have not yet even got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. Of them, 20,298 people in urban areas and 25,427 in rural areas are yet to be vaccinated. The officials concerned have been instructed to educate about the importance of vaccination, he added.
