Mangaluru: Indian Coast Guard personnel on Saturday rescued 10 fishermen from a boat that was stranded off New Mangalore Port due to engine failure.

The boat had sailed from Kochi.

The ICG ship Amartya intercepted a distress message on Friday, and started coordinating rescue efforts with the boat. The severe weather and sea conditions resulted in several unsuccessful attempts throughout the night.

“Braving heavy sea, ICGS Amartya rescued precious lives on the boat and towed it safely to NMPT,” Coast Guard Commander (Karnataka) Deputy Inspector General
S S Dasila said.
