Mangaluru: Four people have been booked by the Surat police for duping a Mangaluru based doctor of Rs. 2.25 crore by allegedly manipulating his bank account.
According to the complaint filed by Axis Bank official Omkishan Patel, the fraud was committed by the accused from 8th January to 18th January in three different parts of the country.
The police have arrested Axis Bank employees Sandeep Dakhra and Savan Balda, the bank’s former employee Daval Bhikhadiya and another unidentified person based on CCTV camera footage.
In the preliminary step, the accused changed Dr. Sunil Deva Prasad’s account ownership in the Mangaluru Axis bank branch claiming he was dead. In their second step they changed his registered phone number and finally they transferred the amount of Rs. 2.25 crore from his account.
It is learnt that the money was withdrawn from Sunil’s bank account in Mangaluru and also from a branch in Haryana. However, the bank was able to salvage around Rs. 1.23 crore from his account.
A case has been registered at Surat police station.
