Honnavar: In Uttara Kannada district, the pressing issue of social and economic inequality demands immediate attention, according to renowned litterateur Sripad Shetty.

While the district boasts prosperity, the local populace fails to benefit from its abundant natural resources. Shetty emphasized the need for initiatives ensuring that the less privileged can lead dignified lives, urging the implementation of educational and skill development programs for youth.

Speaking at the 23rd District Sahitya Sammelan in Honnavar, Shetty outlined key proposals for the district's development. These include the establishment of a multi-specialty hospital, an airport, and a tribal university. Shetty also stressed the importance of railway connectivity, suggesting the construction of the Talguppa-Honnavar and Ankola-Hubballi lines.

Inaugurating the literary event, Siddalinga Pattanshetty highlighted the role of writers in transcending caste and district boundaries, emphasizing their responsibility to enrich the literary field.

MLA Dinakar Shetty and MLA Satish Sail underscored the significance of literature in fostering knowledge and patience, with Sail addressing the need to curb migration by creating local job opportunities.

The event witnessed the release of six books by various authors, marking a celebration of literary contributions in the culturally vibrant Uttara Kannada district.
