Achievements to be Congress BJP’s main election plank

Karwar (DHNS): Political parties in the district are gearing for assembly elections which is just a few months away.

The JD(S) has already announced its list of candidates, which has been of great help to candidates as they are spared of anxiety of getting tickets, and concentrate all their efforts in wooing the voters.

Ticket aspirants

On the other hand, BJP and Congress ticket aspirants are eagerly waiting for the announcement of candidates list. But, majority of them are not worried, as they say their parties’ achievements would be a major poll plank for them.

JD(S) candidate Anand Asnotikar has stated that the announcement of the candidates’ list much early has been a big help.

Good response

“The announcement of the ticket has enabled me to undertake extensive campaign in the rural areas. In my assembly constituency, I need to undertake campaign in just six gram panchayats. I will later meet the voters in Karwar City and Ankola town,” he said.

“Party leaders had announced my candidacy in the first list, which was released on January 15. Since then, I have been visiting six to seven villages every day, and I have received good response everywhere. People are eagerly waiting for me to become MLA. The reason is the present MLA had remained aloof from people all these four-and-half years,” Asnotikar stated.

However, ticket aspirants from other parties claim that the delay in the announcement of tickets compared to JD(S) would not be a big draw back.

“Apart from announcing the name of candidate, all other preparations are in place. The achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central government is very good, and would be used extensively in the upconing elections to seek votes,” stated BJP District President K G Naik.

Groundswell of support

He said, JD(S) has no base in the district, and has to start from the scratch.

Hence, they have announced the candidate well in advance so that he could start campaigning.

Since there is already groundswell of support to our party, delay in announcement of candidate’s name would not be much of a problem, he added.

Congress leaders also echoed the same sentiment. Deepak Doddur, in charge of party’s social media cell, stated that party relies on social network, and achivements of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and District In-charge Minister R V Deshpande would be a major poll plank for the party. People here vote on the basis of party, and not on the basis of candidate, he explained.
