Bangalore: A 57 year old women, Lata Prakash who was suffering from cervical radiculopathy with frozen shoulder has claimed that she has finally recovered from her long term illness without any surgery. Bangalore based Lata says that she was suffering from illness since she was 27 and despite various therapies and treatments for continuous years she was unable to recover from her illness. The pain affected her daily chores so badly that she was restricted in almost everything. Seeing her condition a friend of hers suggested that she consult a doctor in  Mumbai. This made her visit Dr. Pradeep Mahajan which proved to be a turning point in her life.

Lata Prakash was suffering from cervical radiculopathy with frozen shoulder since more than 25 years. Cervical radiculopathy results in pain and related symptoms that occur due to nerve root irritation in region of cervical spine which is the neck and shoulder. This condition is common in old age due to bone wear and tear; however, it may also occur due to repeated stress injury. Lata has been a stenographer since the age of 17, thus regular use of manual type writer for long period of time may have led to development of cervical pain, the sources said.

Apart from the neck and shoulder pain, lata experienced numbness in both upper limbs and had difficulty in lifting objects. With only one session of cell based therapy, She saw huge improvement in pain. Shoulder movements also gradually improved and presently the patient is able to perform all her daily activities comfortably. Within a week she stopped experiencing numbness in her upper limbs.

“Frozen Shoulder is a condition that results due to thickening of the capsule of the joint and reduction in synovial fluid. It causes severe pain, restricted range of motion, disturbed sleep pattern all of which may disrupt patients’ daily lives. Chronic irritation leads to inflammation which is the chief cause of discomfort in such conditions,” said Dr Pradeep Mahajan.

“Along with cell based therapy Lata Prakash also underwent Very Intense Pulse Pressure (VIPP) therapy. VIPP is based on the principle of shock based therapy which when used with cell based therapy can increase the expression of growth factors required for healing. Local administration of mesenchymal stem cells ensured reduction in inflammation which was chiefly responsible for pain in the shoulder joint and neck. Mesenchymal stem cells along with growth factors derived from Platelet Rich Plasma also aided in regeneration of soft tissues damaged by the chronic inflammatory condition. She was also advised physiotherapy exercises which she was instructed to continue at home as well,” said Dr Mahajan.

“Thanks to the holistic treatment based on the doctor’s protocol, I feel very light and comfortable. Earlier, when I would travel I found it difficult to commence daily activities for the next few days because of the pain but now I managed a two month overseas tour. I am also freelancing now this makes me feel independent once again,” said Lata Prakash.
