Karwar: The followers of Anand Asnotikar on Wednesday gave him a grand welcome in Karwar, following his return after joining the JD(S) at H D Deve Gowda’s residence, in Bengaluru, on 15th January.

His followers and members of JD(S) in large number garlanded him and burst fire crackers, on his arrival at Polam, on Karnataka-Goa border, in his car.

Speaking to reporters, Asnotikar said that JD(S) would grow from strength to strength in the district, and expressed hope that the party would win five out of six Assembly seats in the district.

“The people from the region depend upon Goa for selling fish and other products. However, locals would be greatly benefited if locally available resources are put to better use. Construction of additional ports would benefit them. Unfortunately, no chief minister has given a thought about this. Only regional party like JD(S) can take steps to help the local people,” he said.

He said, JD(S) does not believe in religion-based politics, and solely concentrated on the development agenda.

Janata Dal (Secular) State Executive Committee Member Purushottam Savant, Taluk Unit President Ajith Pokale and Women’s wing President Swati Kalkutkar were present.
