Reports are emerging that ATM's across several states in the country are going dry with no cash to disburse. According to a report by the Economic Times, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were witnessing a cash crunch since the last 2 weeks with ATM's unable to dispense currency notes. Similar reports are coming from Maharashtra, Bihar, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur and Karnataka.

Acknowledging the problem, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said that the problem will be tackled quickly. Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla has said that the a committee has been formed to address the problem. "It will be solved in 2-3 days", he said.

"Gross Mismanagement or deliberate attempt?"

The opposition has heavily criticized the government over the cash crunch with Congress asking whether it a 'gross mismanagement or a deliberate attempt. "News reports say that ATMs around the country are running of out cash. Is it just gross mismanagement by the Modi Govt or is this a deliberate move?" INC's official handle tweeted on Tuesday.

CPI(M)'s Sitaram Yechury also had stinging words for the government as he tweeted, "ATMs were empty in November 2016. ATMs are empty now. And the only party flush with cash is the BJP: the people suffer."

On the other hand, citizens are teeming with worry and anger as the memories of the 2016 demonitization are still fresh in their minds. "Then also PM Modi had asked for 50 days to tackle the issue. We all know what happened." More than 100 people had died across the nation while reportedly attempting to get their demonitized currency converted into legally acceptable currency notes.

Further details on the situation are awaited and will be updated accordingly.
