Karwar: Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul directed officials concerned to create awareness on the facilities available for minorities under various Union and State government schemes.

Presiding over a meeting to review the progress of Prime Minister’s new 15 point programme, at the deputy commissioner’s office in Karwar on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner Nakul said that many people coming from the minority communities have little or no knowledge about the various welfare schemes designed for them by the government. Therefore, the Minority Department must conduct awareness programmes at least twice every month.

Several complaints:

“There are complaints that the Arivu information centres are not working properly and have closed their doors. The department must pay attention towards this issue and ensure that these centres work actively”, Nakul instructed.

District Minority Welfare Officer Guddappa informed the meeting that sanction has been given to 221 children from minorities community under the Bhagyalakshmi Scheme.

Applications invited:

This year, a total of 168 students have taken admission in Morarji Desai Residential School.

Applications have also been invited for admission to post-matric boys hostels in Karwar and Sirsi taluks.

Deputy Director of Women & Children Development Department Rajendra Bekal attended the meeting.
