Assembly polls: BJP snatches Uttara Kannada from Congress hand

Karwar: The communal clashes that took place six months ago in district played its in BJP gaining upper hand in the district, with the saffron party bagging four seats and Congress just two.

Senior Congress leader  R V Deshpande created history of sorts by winning the Haliyal constituency for a record eighth time, while BJP’s Vishweshwara Hegde kageri be came MLA for the sixth time. If the sitting yallapure MLA Shivaram Hebbar of Congress scraped through with a siender margin, first time candidate Roopali Naik roped to victory with a margin of 14,064 votes.

Setting MLAs of Congress Satish Sail, Mankal Vaidaya, Shardha shetty tasted defeat on Tuesday.

Dinakar Shetty, who switched over to BJP from JD (S) also won Kumta constituency with a margin of 32,75 votes. The communally charged Bhatkal constituency also went to the saffron party, as Sunil Naik won the seat.
