Kumta: At least three persons were killed on the spot, while more than fifteen hurt seriously after the bus in which they were traveling in met with a collision with a ten-wheel truck on Kumta NH-66. The accident happened on Saturday afternoon.

Sources from Kumta informed that the accident happened when the bus belonging to KSRTC was moving towards Gokarna from Kumta, while the truck was in the opposite direction. The truck carried a iron poles loaded into its container, that rammed a bus causing deadly incident to take place. 

The deceased are identified as Shashikala Harikantra (60) of Hoskatta and Venkatesh Gunaga (45) of Torke. However, another deceased succumbed to the injuries on the way to hospital. 

All the injured have been shifted to Udupi private hospital for advanced treatment after giving initial treatments at Kumta government hospital.

As the news spread in the town, hundreds of people gathered at the spot and later rushed at Kumta government hospital. Due to mishap, traffic jam was observed for around a hour on the highway.

A case has been registered in Kumta police station.
