Bhatkal: MLA Mankal Vaidya and hundreds of people safe after an attempt to throw a Crude bomb on Bhatkal MLA Mankal Vaidya failed during a public function which was held on Sunday late night in Honnavar.

According to sources, Bhatkal-Honnavar Constituency MLA Mankal Vaidya was attending a district level volleyball tournament in Hosad village of Honnavar Taluk on Sunday night when a big explosion occurred. Later people saw that the person who took the bomb on his hands was trying to run and attempted to jump into a well, but police nabbed the person. His hands were full of blood and scratches were also seen in other parts of his body. He has been identified as Raymond Miranda.

According to people who have attended the program, the major tragedy was averted when the bomb got blasted in the hands of the accused who was attempting to throw it on the stage. However, he sustained severe burn injuries to his hands.

Speaking to SahilOnline over the phone, MLA Vaidya said that the person who was attempting to explode the bomb was injured severely. The crowd of nearly 2000 people was present at the venue during the time of the incident. Luckily, none other than the accused were injured. The political enmity might be the reason for this incident, he said.

Police have registered the case and the investigation into this matter is being carried on.
