Udupi: Karkala police on Friday have booked five persons including Bajrang Dal leader Mahesh Shenvi for their alleged involvement in assaulting a Muslim youth by using sharp weapons on Thursday evening. An attempt to murder case has been sealed against the assaulters.

Sources said, Mahesh Shenvi and Ganesh Pujari along with other three had assaulted Shaikh Mohsin horribly using sharp weapons at Banglegudda in the outskirts of Karkala on Thursday night. Mohsin was then admitted to a local hospital in Karkala and is reported to be out of danger.

A while later, the same team reportedly assaulted Mohammad and Salman at Banglagudde.

The police have registered cases and the hunt is on to nab the suspects.
