Bar licences of 12 outlets cancelled for violation of rules

Karwar: Excise Department has suspended the licence of 12 liquor shops in the district for violating the excise rules and regulations.

The licence suspension will be in vogue till the end of the assembly election process, according to the excise department. Further, notices have been issued to 24 licence holders and explanations have been sought from them, informed Excise Deputy Commissioner L A Manjunath.

Licence of Tirumala Wines and Tribhuvana Wines in Yellapur, Prasilla Wines, Crystel Bar, Mahabaleshwara Recreations, Ashirwad Wines in Kumta, Sonia Wines in Mundgod, Renuka Wines in Dandeli, MSIL, Aplllo Bar and Restaurant, Prameela Wines in Ankola and Parijata Bar and Restaruant of Sirsi, are the outlets whose licences have been annulled.

Such an action has been taken for selling liquor without following the restrictions and supplying of liquor for election related parties, he said.

Liquor seized

Meawnhile, the excise officials seized 7.74 litres of liquor worth Rs 2,516 in the raids conducted at 33 places. Five cases have been registered in this connection.

Officials have seized Goa whisky worth Rs 7,200 being transported from Goa to Karwar in a scooter.

Two persons Vijay (25) and Ramesh Kalgutkar (39) were held in this connection.
