Honnavar: MLA Mankal Vaidya distributed compensation letters to affected people by ongoing quadrilateral road construction work on National Highway 66 in Honnavar and Kumta taluks, on Tuesday.
A sum of Rs 4.11 crore, comprising compensation amount of Rs 70 lakh to owners of private buildings on government land, Rs 2 crore for government building, Rs 42 lakh for owners of private building on forest department land of Honnavar and Kumta taluks was distributed by MLA Vaidya, Later speaking, he asked the public to co-operate with officials for successful implementation of various schemes and projects of government.
The developmental works are being taken up in Honnavar and Bhatkal taluks, which fall under Bhatkal assembly constituency.
With the support of District In-charge Minsiter R V Deshpande, compensation has been given to people living in government and forest lands, he added.
The work, started in March 2014, and expected to be completed in December 2016, has been unduly delayed due to tardy land acquisition process among other reasons. This has necessitated provision of compensation to the affected people, he said, Assistant Commissioner M N Manjunath, Tahsildar V R Gowda and others were present.
