Bhatkal: The Bhatkal Block Congress has strongly condemned allegations made by local businessman Mastappa Naik against Karnataka Minister and District In-charge Mankal Vaidya concerning the proposed construction of a multispeciality hospital in the forest area of Bailur village.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Bhatkal Block Congress President Venkatesh Naik accused Mastappa Naik of politicizing a public welfare initiative and attempting to derail a healthcare project with unfounded claims. “The minister had made a promise to the family of a road accident victim during his previous tenure, and he is now honoring that commitment by initiating efforts—through government support or private donations—to set up the hospital,” he said.
Naik suggested that the smear campaign was politically motivated, noting that the Vaidya family has consistently won elections owing to their social service record. “Such reckless statements jeopardize public welfare and will not be tolerated,” he added.
He also condemned derogatory remarks made by Mastappa Naik on social media, where the minister’s supporters were allegedly compared to criminals. Naik warned that such language was unacceptable in public discourse and could undermine Mastappa Naik’s credibility.
During a recent gram sabha in Bailur, where the project was discussed, Congress leaders stated that all attendees except Mastappa Naik supported the allocation of forest land for the hospital. A resolution endorsing the proposal was reportedly passed at the meeting.
Venkatesh Naik also welcomed the engagement of Advocate Nagendra Naik in the matter, urging him to contribute constructively to the initiative. “Instead of creating hurdles, we invite all stakeholders to collaborate in delivering this much-needed healthcare facility,” he said.
The Congress leaders further cautioned against defamation attempts on social media and demanded that Mastappa Naik refrain from making inflammatory or baseless comments regarding the minister and his family.
Also present at the press conference were Bhatkal Block Congress General Secretary Suresh Naik, Guarantee Committee President Raju Naik, Kaikini Gram Panchayat President Raju Naik, Belke Gram Panchayat President Jagdeesh Naik, and several other party members.
