Bhatkal: The morning hours in the town witnessed a tragic road accident between a scooty and a truck, resulting in an on-the-spot death of the scooty rider. The accident occurred on NH-66 near the Shamsuddin circle.
The victim has been identified as Ibrahim Shaikh (75), a resident of Madina Colony, Bhatkal. Mr. Shaikh hailed from Karwar.
According to sources, the accident occured when the lorry hit scooty from behind on NH 66. The collision caused Mr. Ibrahim Shaikh to lose his balance and fall down after which his head came under the same lorry's rear tire. Immediately after the accident, the truck driver fled the scene.
Bhatkal town PSI Kudgunti and his team rushed to the spot while hundreds of locals gathered on the highway. The police conducted the necessary investigations and the body was then sent for post-mortem.
It is learned that the victim was staying in Bhatkal since the last 40 years and had served in thr PWD department for 25 years. He was on his way to the State Bank from Madina colony when the accident occurred.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
A case has been registered in Bhatkal town police station and police are investigating the case.
