Bhatkal: Karnataka Kshatriya Maratha Maha Union President and BJP leader V. S. Shyam Sundar Gaikwad urged the BJP to allocate the ticket for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttara Kannada constituency to a candidate from the backward classes. He highlighted the significant number of voters in this constituency belonging to backward classes, including Marathas, Naiks, and fishermen. Speaking at a press conference in Bhatkal, he emphasized the importance of representing the diverse voter base in the constituency.

Gaikwad highlighted that in the previous Lok Sabha elections, the BJP did not field any candidate from the backward class. He urged the party not to repeat this omission, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made significant contributions to the country. With a Congress government currently in power in the state, Gaikwad emphasized the need for a united effort for victory.

Gaikwad pointed out that districts such as Belagavi, Chikkodi, Uttara Kannada, Dharwad, and Bidar are predominantly influenced by the Maratha community. Allocating tickets to Maratha candidates, he argued, would enhance the BJP's chances of winning in seven additional constituencies.

Commenting on the current Uttara Kannada MP Ananthkumar Hegde, Gaikwad criticized Hegde's tenure, alleging a lack of active involvement. He mentioned the Maratha community's longstanding support for Hegde in the past seven elections and asserted his own three-decade commitment to BJP growth.

Gaikwad recounted his efforts in collaboration with Bangalore's Ananthkumar for the development of Chhatrapati Shivaji's father's tomb. He stressed that the Maratha community played a crucial role in supporting Yeddyurappa's rise to Chief Minister, contributing to the BJP's increased seats. Gaikwad urged Ananthkumar Hegde to step back and allow him to contest the upcoming election.

Veerpaksha Swamiji of Mundgod Salgaon Gurmaji Mutt, present at the press conference, expressed support for Shyam Sundar Gaikwad, stating that everyone respects Chhatrapati Shivaji. He emphasized the need for empowerment within the Kshatriya society.
