Bhatkal: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) observed 8th November as 'Demonetisation day' throughout the country.
The SDPI's Bhatkal chapter lead an agitation and staged a protest in front of the Assistant commissioner office on Anjuman college Road in Bhatkal on Wednesday.
Addressing reporters, Zaheer Ahmed, general secretary, SDPI Uttara Kannada, said, "After banning Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi created nothing but an economic disaster."
Modi assured the nation that it was a historic decision for which he will be answerable. The people who suffered were from middle class and poor sections. They stood in the long serpentine queues to get their notes exchanged, while the rich, including corporate, didn't come out to exchange notes, he said.
Apart from this, nearly 125 people lost their lives. One year after demonetization, no black money has been recovered, no fake currency was confiscated, impact on terrorism is unseen and ultimately the nation became cashless, Ahmed further added.
On this occasion SDPI Bhatkal president Yusuf Mulla, secretary Azeem Khumi, joint secretary Sarfaraz Khan, Sufiyan, Tabrez, Arshad, and others were present.
