Karwar: Karwar police on Friday arrested six more persons in connection with Bhatkal violence that erupted after a vendor set himself ablaze last month.

During the violence, many protesters pelted stones at Bhatkal Town Municipal Council office and some of them assaulted a police constable. After the violence, the police booked cases against many protester and some of them absconded.

On Friday, BJP leader Govind Naik who was arrested in connection with the violence and kept in Karwar jail more than 24 days was released. To receive him, many supporters from Bhatkal came to Karwar. In the supporters’ group, there were some people who were allegedly pelted stones and attacked a constable during the violence.

Karwar police arrested six people and handed them over to Bhatkal police.
