Bhatkal: In a major relief for patients from Bhatkal and surrounding areas, the Bhatkali Jamatul Muslimeen (BJM), Mangaluru, has established a modern and well-equipped BJM Medical Centre in Mangaluru, aimed at providing quality healthcare services at affordable costs.
The initiative is expected to benefit patients from Bhatkal, Murdeshwar, Manki, Valki, Honnavar, Shirur, Byndoor and nearby regions who frequently travel to Mangaluru for treatment. With the new facility, patients will no longer need to depend on expensive hospital services or unverified practitioners, as they can now access reliable medical guidance and care under one roof through the BJM.
Addressing a press conference in Bhatkal, BJM Medical Committee convener S.M. Arshad (Mohtisham) said a large number of patients from Bhatkal and adjoining areas visit Mangaluru ежедневно for medical treatment. He noted that those approaching the Jamaat are guided by its medical committee, which also coordinates with hospitals to secure concessions for patients.
However, he pointed out that in cases involving complicated illnesses and post-surgical care requiring prolonged hospital stays, treatment costs often escalate, placing a heavy financial burden on middle-class families.

Taking these challenges into account, the Jamaat decided to establish a dedicated medical centre to provide quality post-hospital care at comparatively lower costs. The centre has been set up with a focus on community service and offers round-the-clock services of doctors and nursing staff. Specialists from various fields are also available, making it particularly beneficial for patients requiring long-term care.
Arshad said that, in addition to consultant doctors, general physicians are available at the centre to treat common ailments such as fever, pneumonia and typhoid. Services of paediatricians, gynaecologists, physiotherapists and oncology specialists have also been made available.
He clarified that the centre does not provide surgical or ICU facilities. However, patients who have undergone surgery or have been discharged from ICU care at other hospitals can be shifted to the centre for continued treatment under the supervision of concerned doctors.

The medical centre has been established with the support of Bhatkal Welfare Society, Bhatkal Muslim Jamaat Riyadh and Bhatkal Community Jeddah.
Located near Kankanady Bypass in Mangaluru, the facility spans around 6,000 square feet and has a capacity of 21 beds, including general wards and air-conditioned deluxe rooms with attached bathrooms.
According to Arshad, the centre has tie-ups with AJ Hospital and Highland Hospital, in addition to maintaining links with several other major hospitals. In case of emergencies, patients can be shifted to these hospitals. He added that several leading doctors in Mangaluru have extended full cooperation to the initiative.
The facility is also equipped with a modern laboratory offering blood tests, ECG, blood pressure monitoring and other essential diagnostic services. Additional amenities include a restaurant and separate prayer halls for men and women for the convenience of patients and their attendants.
Arshad said the centre has been operational for the past two months and has already begun receiving patients. He added that all necessary government formalities have been completed and the licence has recently been obtained. A formal inauguration is expected to be held in the coming days.
