Karwar: Congress Zilla Samithi General Secretary K Shambu Shetty has downplayed the allegations made by BJP leaders against MLA Satish Sail regarding seat distribution at Government Engineering College to the benefit of Girijabai Sail Engineering College.

In a press release here, on Tuesday, he said, the allegations made by BJP leader Nagraj Nayak shows the level of understanding of the subject by the BJP leaders.

Nayak had charged that MLA Sail had exerted pressure on government engineering college not to fill its 200 seats and instead help filling of Girijabai Sail Engineering College. Since 2016, the Government Engineering College, in Karwar, has seen only 119-133 seats being filled, where as the Girijabai Sail Engineering College has filled all the 60 government allotted seats. “This had caused injustice to the poor students,” Nayak charged.

Responding to the charges, Shetty said all the placement to the government engineering and Girijabai Sail Engineering College have been done as per the rules. BJP leaders are not aware that it is the government which has allotted 60 government seats to Sail College.

However, with Government Engineering College not having required basic facilities and full fledged teaching staff, it is obvious that students would prefer colleges where there are facilities.

Shetty claimed that the main intention of MLA Sail was to provide quality education to the students.

Shetty asked BJP leaders not to stoop to such levels and asked them not to malign the character of Sail for political purpose.
