Gokarna (DHNS): BJP workers who were expectantly waiting to accord a rousing welcome to BJP National President Amit Shah, in Gokarna, on Wednesday, were left a disappointed lot, after Shah’s programme was cancelled.

The entire town wore a bridal look after party workers had decked the entire town with banana plantations, flowers and erected huge hoardings welcoming Shah. However, all their efforts went in vain, after Amit Shah cancelled his visit to the town.

Additional police security too was put in place and two helipads had been readied. But, citing ill-health, Shah cancelled his visit to Gokarna and returned to New Delhi by a special plane from Hubballi.

Citing security, the police had temporarily dislodged some of the petty shops on the roadside and shop-keepers were found resetting their shops in the evening.

Some shop keepers spewed vitriol on police for not allowing them to open their stalls which had incurred loss during the jatra mahotsava.
