Karwar: District administration will hire two boats to transport electronic voting machines, VVPAT to island polling booths in the district, informed Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul.

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, he said the voting machines will be transported to polling booths of Devakar in Karwar taluk and Aigal Kurve in Bhatkal taluk. The administration will also transport voting machines and officials in 175 buses and 132 maxi-cabs. The administration is also hiring 176 jeeps for the implementation of model code of conduct and to check election expenditure.

For the benefit of blind people, the administration has given them braille inscription pamphlets. The administration has also purchased 576 wheelchairs for felicitating physically challenged voters. “Uttara Kannada is the only district in State to offer such facilities,” he said.

The administration has also made sure that all the assembly constituencies have at least 20% additional EVMs and 30% VVPAT machines.

As VVPAT is being used for the first time in these elections, we are deputed an additional staff at the polling booths.

Nakul said, so far the complaint in-charge unit, which has been set up at deputy commissioner’s office has received 245 complaints, out of which only four complaints have to be resolved.

Of the 576 requests for conducting rallies and programme the district administration has to dispose off only two applications, he said.
