Bus carrying 56 Umrah pilgrims topples on Kumta NH-66

Kumta: In a road accident, a private bus from Shiroor carrying Umrah pilgrims reportedly toppled on Kumta NH-66 opposite to APMC on the late night of Sunday.

Sources from Kumta informed that the bus had nearly 56 pilgrims, among which 43 were women. It was on the way towards Goa airport to drop pilgrims to depart for Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The incident happened when the driver lost control over the vehicle resulting in the bus to roll on the highway sustaining injuries to the passengers. Two of the victims who sustained grievous injuries were advised to shift Udupi hospital for advanced treatment. The exact number of passengers who were hurt is yet to be ascertained. 

As the news spread, the fire brigade personnel along with the representatives of Kumta Jamat Ul Muslimeen and Al-Ittihad Youth Committee rushed to the spot and helped in shifting the injured to the government hospital.

The traffic movement was stopped on the highway for a while, which was resumed after police cleared the road.

A case has been registered in Kumta police station.
