Mangaluru: A Job Mela organised by the Ola Company at its office in Lalbagh here was picketed by Ola cab drivers on 25th January, Thursday.
The protest was led by Dakshina Kannada District Online Taxi Drivers and Operators Association. The protesters alleged that the company lured unemployed youth and then let them down.
The protesters spoke out saying that the whole idea of Mela is a plot to sell cars after giving false assurances to unemployed youth, while in reality even the existing Ola operators are suffering due to lack of trips. They cannot even repay their bank loans.
The angry protesters even burned down the the banners and handouts of the Mela.
Honorary President of the Association B K Imtiyaz who is also the District President of DYFI, Association President Jagaraj Rai, Subhash Vajid, Kamalaksha and many other Ola cab drivers took part in the protest.
