Car slams petrol Tanker near Murdeshwar in Bhatkal; one killed, nine injured

Bhatkal: One person was killed and nine injured after a car in which they were travelling rammed with a fuel tanker at Mavinkatte NH 66 near Murdeshwar in Bhatkal taluk on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Anappa Kharvi (60), a well known fish businessman in Uppanda.

He and his family members were returning to Uppunda, near Kundapur after attending a festival in Sirsi when their car collided head-on with the tanker which was on the way to Yellapur from Mangalore.

The tanker hauling 12,000 gallons of fuel including 8000 gallons Diessel and 4000 gallons petrol, overturned soon after the crash, and the car overturned and landed on the divider of the under construction road.

The injured are identified as wife of Anappa, Mukambik Kharvi (55), son Subramanya Kharvi (30), Prabhakar Kharvi (45), his wife Nagveni Kharvi (33). Pushpa Kharvi, Sharada Kharvi and three children.

It is said that Subramanya Kharvi was driving the car, he was jammed in the car after the crash and locals faced difficulties to remove him from the car. He is said to be seriously injured and taken to Manipal after initial treatment at Bhatkal govt hospital and Kundapur hospital.

A case has been registered in Murdeshwar police station.
