Karwar: Office-bearers of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Mavinamane unit, submitted a memorandum to Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer L Chandrashekhar, in Karwar, on Friday, demanding veterinary facilities for villages coming within the limits of Mavinamane and Vajralli gram panchayats in Yallapur taluk.
Mavinamane unit President Vigneshwar Narayan Bhat Hostota stated that as per census carried out by the Veterinary Department, the population of cattle in these two villages was more than 3,800, and there were eight milk producers’ co-operative societies. More than 2,200 litres of milk is collected at these societies daily. However, the residents of Mavinamane rely on a veterinarian who is located 40km away from the village. This results in wastage of time, money, and efforts of cattle breeders, he said.
The posts of veterinarian, supervisor, and two assistants have fallen vacant in the Veterinary Hospital located at Vajralli. The posts of supervisor and an assistant are vacant in Mavinamane Veterinary Hospital. The same is the fate in Kalache also. The lack of steps to fill these posts which had been vacant for years, reflects poorly on the functioning of the department, they complained.
They lamented that because of the negligence of the department officials, those engaged in animal husbandry here have been forced to give up modern methods and revert back to the traditional method of cattle breeding.
