Karwar: In a mock drill, Coastal Security Police (CSP) of Karwar arrested seven terrorists and seized four bombs when they were infiltrating Karwar coast in an unknown boat on Tuesday near Karwar. The timely act of CSP prevented major accidents at various sensitive points in the district.
According to CSP, the terrorists were planning to plant bombs at nuclear plant near Kaiga, India Naval Base near Karwar, Kali bridge, Arga railway tunnel, Honnavar Sharavati Bridge, Tadadi port, Honnavar railway tunnel and other places which are known as sensitive places in the district.
As part of the two-day joint coastal security exercise ‘Sagar Kavach’, to assess the preparedness of Karwar and Bhatkal region coastal police in the event of a terror attack, began here on Tuesday.
Uttara Kannada coastal security police, Indian Coast Guard and Port Department have jointly participated in the mock practice that began on Tuesday morning at 6 am and it will end by Wednesday evening at 6 pm. High-alert was declared in the coastal taluks and CSP were searching for boats in the sea.
CSP officials said the terrorists were planning to blast sensitive areas of the district therefore they had planned to gain entry to the district through sea route.
Each terrorist was give task of planting bombs at the listed sensitive places. He said, they have arrested all seven terrorists and the search operation will continue till tomorrow evening till the mock drill ends.
