Karwar: A mentally unstable person was rescued by a team of Chittakul police when he attempted to suicide for the third time by drowning in the Kali river in Karwar on Sunday morning.
The victim is Shankar lamani, a resident of Hangal taluk in Haveri district.
According to the sources, Shankar, on Sunday morning came to the river and tried to drown himself. Noticed this by the nearby people, screamed for Shankar to return back from the river. But Shankar showed no attention on the voices and went on swimming for around a kilometer long.
As the information was alerted, police personnel rushed to the spot and along with the help of Devbag resort staffs, went on for rescuing Shankar. After a long search, he was then rescued from the river and was rushed to Govt hospital. The family members of Shankar were strictly advised to get the treatment done.
It shall be remembered that Shankar along with his 2-yr-old son, on 28 March had jumped into Kali river to end his life. However, he was rescued and was shifted to govt hospital for treatment. He performed the same act on the next day and again he was rescued by fire brigade personnel. He was then shifted to the mental hospital in Dharwad.
