Ramanagara: Congress MP DK Suresh and IT Minister Dr CN Ashwathnarayan on Monday entered into a scuffle in full public view over some development works in presence of Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai at a programme organised by the state government to unveil Dr BR Amedkar and Kempegowda' statues.
The spat ensued after Ashwathnarayan enlisted a slew of works taken up by the BJP in the area without mentioning the contribution of Congress leaders including DK Shivakumar and his brother DK Suresh, who is also an MP from the constituency.
Taking objection to Ashwathnarayan's statement, Suresh said it was improper to give credit only to BJP at an event organized by the government.
As Ashwathnarayan continued with his speech, an enraged Suresh, in full public view, a video of which has gone viral, charged towards the IT Minister and entered into a scuffle when policemen intervened.
Suresh was joined by another Congress leader and MLC S Ravi from the area, who tried to pull the mike off the pulpit to stop Ashwathnarayan from speaking.
Later, Suresh sat on dharna on the stage in front of the chair where CM Bommai was seated and later Congress supporters tore up Ashwathnarayan' posters.
Amid the scuffle, Bommai took the mike and urged participants not to mix politics with development. "Individual egos should not overwhelm the event organized to honor Ambedkar and Kempegowda.
Speaking on the occasion, Suresh said Ashwathnarayan was a stumbling block for the setting up of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in Ramanagara.
"Ramanagara's silk became famous, not because of the BJP. Despite political differences, both parties have worked together in the interest of the district," he said.
