Chikkamagaluru: Three police constables were allegedly assaulted while on duty at Lakkavalli in Tarikere taluk on Sunday evening. Byresh, Annaiah and Ninga Naika are attached to the Lakkavalli police station.

According to a complaint, Byresh and his colleagues reached old Lakkavalli locality around 9 p.m. following a phone call about a person causing nuisance in the area. When they reached the place, they found the accused Prashanth shouting and screaming. The neighbours had called the police following the nuisance.

When the police stopped him, the accused pounced on Byresh and tore his uniform. He scolded the other constables and tried to flee.

The constables were successful in taking Prashanth into custody.

A case has been registered against Prashanth on the charge of obstructing government officials from discharging their duty.
