Udupi: BJP has decided to field only one candidate, MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, for two seats of Legislative Council from local authorities constituencies.
The polls will be held on December 10. BJP district unit president Kuyiladi Suresh Nayak told media persons in BJP party office on Monday that the party can secure around 3,708 votes which is sufficient to win a seat. He informed that the decision to field only Poojary was taken by high command.
In DK, BJP will get about 2,136 votes and in Udupi, the party is sure of securing 1,572 votes. “We want our candidate to win with a huge margin.” Nayak stressed at a workshop organised by BJP on how to cast votes under preferential voting system in ensuing MLC elections.
Votes of gram panchayat members, councilors and corporators will be cast in favour of BJP candidate only. There is no questioning of supporting independent candidate like M N Rajendra Kumar, he said while replying to a query.
The BJP will organize ‘Jana Swaraj Convention’ at Town Hall on November 19.
Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa and others will take part in the convention, he added.
