Bhatkal: As Cyclone Fengal moves towards the coastal Karnataka region, heavy rainfall is forecasted for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Tuesday, 3rd December.
Following this, Mullai Muhilan, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada, and Dr. K Vidya Kumari, the DC of Udupi, announced a holiday for all schools and colleges on Tuesday.
The decision follows an orange alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, warning of heavy rain due to Cyclone Fengal. All Anganwadi centers, government, aided, and private primary and high schools, as well as pre-university colleges (up to 12th grade), will remain closed on 3rd December.
Notably, the neighboring state of Kerala has been witnessing torrential rains since this afternoon. Mangaluru witnessed significant rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in the evening, and reports indicate that heavy rain has now started in Udupi as well.
Meanwhile, Bhatkal and Uttara Kannada experienced light drizzles this evening, with the sky remaining overcast. It has been forecasted that Bhatkal and Uttara Kannada are likely to receive substantial rainfall on Wednesday, December 4. In the neighboring districts of Chikmagalur and Kodagu, heavy rainfall has also been predicted for tomorrow, Tuesday.
Furthermore, due to continuous rainfall, schools and colleges were closed today, December 2, in districts like Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Chamarajanagar, and Mysuru. For tomorrow, December 3, heavy rainfall has been predicted in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Mysuru, Kodagu, Ramanagara, and Chamarajanagar, while moderate rain is expected in Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Tumkur, and other districts.
