Karwar: Vishwa Prani Kalyana Mandali President Dayanand Swamy said discussions would be held with the State Chief Secretary and Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner, regarding slaughter (sacrifice) of camels, goats and cows in Bhatkal every year.
Briefing reporters here, on Wednesday, he sought preparation of a list of animal slaughter in respective police station limits in the district, during the religious celebrations.
“I object slaughter of animals in the name of rituals and religious celebrations. I don’t fear to approach those, who slaughter animals, to convince them. Hence, animal lovers, religious leaders, various organisations in Uttara Kannada district should unite to prevent animal slaughter,” he said.
Hold a meeting
Soon after completion of the electoral process, deputy commissioner should fix a date and call a meeting to hold discussions about prevention of animal slaughter and legal measures taken to prevent it, he said.
He said information has been received about animal slaughter at Kan Beer Temple, in Bavikere, near Ankola, on May 9 and at Jainbeer Temple, in Belekeri, on May 20.
