Death toll of Kota accident rises to three, family decides to donate organs of the third victim

Udupi: The death toll of Kota accident between Car-Truck rises to three after an injured victim succumbs to her injuries. The deceased is Kasturi Poojary (36). It shall be noted that the accident had happened on Tuesday near Basrur Murukai in Kota in Kundapur

Girija (56) and Avinash (27) had died on Tuesday itself.

Kasturi, who had suffered severe head injuries, was admitted to Kasturba hospital in Manipal on Tuesday.

The organs of an accident victim were harvested after her relatives expressed their desire for it at Kasturba Hospital here and were later transported to other hospitals to benefit six patients through a ‘green corridor’ here on Thursday.

According to a press release issued by Kasturba Hospital, Kasturi was declared brain-dead by a panel of doctors at 6 pm on December 13 (on Wednesday) and the second declaration was done on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the family members of Kasturi expressed their willingness to donate the viable organs — both the kidneys, liver and heart valves.

After following the procedures laid down by the authorities concerned, one kidney will be donated to an identified patient in Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, and the second kidney for a patient at Fr Mullers Hospital, Mangaluru; the liver to a patient in A J Hospital, Mangaluru, and heart valves to a patient at Narayana Hrudayalaya, Bengaluru.

One cornea each will be transplanted to two patients identified in Kasturba Hospital. After harvesting the organs at Kasturba Hosptial, a ‘green corridor’ was arranged by Udupi police from Manipal to Mangaluru for transporting the organs.
