Digital library to come up at Chittakula to facilitate readers

Karwar: Chittakula Gram Panchayat in Karwar taluk is initiating measures to provide digital library facilities to the readers at the public library located in the village.     

The Gram Panchayat had already drawn the attention by generating solar power and selling it to the Hescom. Now, it is ready to provide the facility of the digital library for its readers especially to facilitate youths who want to prepare for competitive examinations.

For the digital library, computers are being arranged and high-speed internet and other facilities are being provided at the public library building situated near the Gram Panchayat office. New books are being purchased.  

Speaking to reporters, Gram Panchayat President Swati Sooraj Desai said, there are no coaching facilities in and around Karwar, Sadashivagada and Chittakula for students to prepare for UPSC, KPSC, police, banking, teachers recruitment and other competitive examinations. Poor students who want to prepare for competitive examinations face inconveniences to study. In order to facilitate such students, the digital library is being started at Chittakula, she stated. 

Future plans

She informed that at present, three computers are being installed for the digital library. In the coming days, it has been planned to renovate the old building to facilitate more readers. The compound wall would be constructed and a new look would be given to the library, she added. 

Youth Santosh Raikar of the village said, the youths who wish to prepare for competitive examinations, face problems due to the unavailability of proper study material in rural areas. The library would help them to prepare for the competitive examinations, he expressed happiness.
