Karwar: Compared to last two years, number of house and shop thefts have come down in Uttara Kannada district but number of vehicle thefts are rising.
In 2016, 52 cases of vehicle theft were registered in various police stations in Uttara Kannada district. Of these, 32 vehicles were traced. In 2017, 48 cases were registered and 25 vehicles were found. This year, 37 vehicle theft cases have been registered in just six months (from January to June) and of them, 12 cases have been solved.
“Maximum cases of vehicle thefts have been recorded in Sirsi and Kumta compared to other taluks of the district,” Karwar CPI Sharangowda Patil said.
Additional Superintendent of Police Gopal Byakod said CCTV cameras have been installed in major towns of the district.
In Karwar, City Municipal Council has requested CCTV cameras for the City. These will help trace thieves at the earliest.
