Siddapur: Former minister & MLA Vishveshwar Hegde Kageri said, education should develop a feeling of pride about India’s culture in students and bring about reforms in man.
He was speaking after inaugurating the golden jubilee celebration of the Government Higher Primary School at Hittalkoppa in Siddapur taluk on Saturday.
Health awareness
He said, India had achieved 80% literacy rate. But how many Indians had awareness about their health?
Had it brought down the number of people going to police station to file complaints? Had it curtailed corruption in administration? Kageri lamented stating despite being educated it has not seen reciprocal advantage.
Increased problems
“It is unfortunate that increasing literacy rate has increased problems. Education has not crated proper awareness among people. We fight for water, literature is disturbing peace in society, rift is being create among castes and religions,” the former minister regretted.
Proper orientation
Compared to earlier times, education offered today was good. Students got mid-day-meal, shoes, cycles, and many other facilities. What was the use if students didn’t get proper orientation even after getting all these facilities?, Kageri questioned.

Taluk Panchayat President Sudhir Goudar, writer Subray Mattihalli, Mahabaleshwar Hegde, Dakshayani Gouda, Lalita Kattemani, Veena Goudar, Mahaling, Mohan Madiwal and others were present.
